报告题目：Technologies that Enhance Cloud Computing Performance（云计算性能提升技术）
Key features of cloud computing include elasticity, on-demand self-service, broad network access, and resource pooling, which enable clouds to provide cost-effective services to myriads of variety of users around the world. To offer centralized services in such multi-tenanted clouds, performance is the most important issue that needs to be addressed. In addition to employing high computing power multi-processors, virtualization is a key technology in building high performance cloud infrastructure. Virtualization technology consolidates multiple virtual machines (VMs) on a single underlying physical machine via virtual machine monitor (VMM). In such virtualized computing environments, key challenges include: i) keeping performance isolation among VMs to enable cloud service providers to offer quality of service guarantee to the users, ii) developing optimal VM consolidation schemes that minimize the usage of CPU, storage, and network resources, and iii) tackling the vulnerabilities introduced by virtualization. To address these challenging issues, in this talk, we focus our discussion on the technologies of VM consolidation, performance isolation, and vCPU scheduling.
David S.L. Wei received his Ph.D. degree in Computer and Information Science from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991. He is currently a Full Professor of Computer and Information Science Department at Fordham University. From May 1993 to August 1997 he was on the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Aizu, Japan (as an Associate Professor and then a Full Professor). Dr. Wei has authored and co-authored more than 120 technical papers in the areas of wireless networks and mobile computing, optical networks, P2P communications, big data, cloud computing, and IoT in various archival journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Wei ever served as A.E. and guest editor for some leading journals, such as IEEE J-SAC, IEEE TCC, IEEE TBD, etc. Currently, Dr. Wei focuses his research efforts on cloud and edge computing, IoT, big data, machine learning, and cognitive radio networks.
